The short version
Cozy Launcher collects no data about you. It has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and I run no server that receives anything from it. Everything it stores stays on your own PC.
What it stores on your PC
- Game files and settings in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CozyLauncher: Minecraft, a private copy of Java, the modpack, and your choices (player name, memory setting). - Your Microsoft sign-in token, once you sign in, in Windows Credential Manager. It lets the launcher sign you in again next time without asking. It is never written to a plain file or to logs.
- An update code, if you were given one, in your Windows user settings. It only lets the launcher read the group's modpack releases.
Signing out in Settings removes your sign-in token. Uninstalling offers to delete the folder above.
What it connects to
To do its job, the launcher talks to these services directly from your PC. Each one sees your internet address as any website would, and each has its own privacy policy:
- Mojang and Microsoft, to download Minecraft and, when you sign in, to confirm you own it (Microsoft account, Xbox Live and Minecraft services).
- Adoptium (adoptium.net), to download the Java runtime.
- GitHub, to check for and download modpack and launcher updates.
- Mod download sites such as Modrinth, for any mod the modpack links to there.
Signing in with Microsoft
Signing in is required to play: it is how the launcher confirms that you own Minecraft: Java Edition. You sign in on Microsoft's own web page by entering a short code. The launcher never sees your password.
It asks for the permission needed to sign you in to Minecraft services (XboxLive.signin) and
to stay signed in (offline_access), and uses it only for that. You can sign out in the launcher
at any time (you will then need to sign in again to play), and you can also remove the app's access from your Microsoft account's privacy settings.
What it never does
- It does not collect or send usage statistics, crash reports or personal data.
- It does not show ads, and it does not sell or share anything, because it has nothing to share.
- It does not touch your existing
.minecraftfolder, your worlds, or files it did not install.
